9.  Blended Course Delivery Project:  Faculty of Education

The Faculty of Education and the CFL collaborated on this initiative to assess the effectiveness of using a blend of online course delivery with face-to-face instruction to deliver three pre-service courses beginning in September, 2003.  The three courses involved in this initiative were: Junior/Intermediate French with Dr. Janet Flewelling, Educational Psychology with Dr. Larry Morton and Organization and Management in Educational Administration with Glenn Rideout.  In all three courses material for approximately 10 of the 16 face-to-face in-class sessions was converted for delivery online.  All online lessons included: voice recorded lecture presentations synchronized with PowerPoint slides, readings that were available online and hard copy, collaborative student projects, text and oral discussion forums.  Currently there are thirty-one students in this version of the program.  Some of the students are taking two of the three courses.  CFL is in the process of conducting a survey of the students’ feelings and opinions with respect to their experience with the Blended Delivery format.

This pilot project is intended to provide information concerning the feasibility of offering Faculty of Education courses in a blended format to students who are unable to attend regular sessions.  In this format, students would take courses online during the fall and winter semesters, then take concentrated face-to-face class during the summer months.
