| WebCast projects
involve
capturing and encoding video, from a live or recorded source, and then
distributing the encoded video via streaming technology over the
Intranet/Internet. The video can be distributed as it is encoded or from
a file after it is encoded.
Microsoft Windows 2000 Media Server was used to capture and encode the following events. The original events were distributed live. An archive file was created during encoding for later playback. There was no post production editing done. Presentations may be viewed with either Microsoft Internert Explorer of Netscape. |

Lecture authoring projects
involve the use of authoring systems to assemble media components along
an audio or video timeline. Lecture components usually include audio,
video and graphics (PowerPoint and or still images). This type of
project may or may not involve programming depending upon the authoring
system used. In the
following projects Microsoft
Producer software was used to synchronize and display video (with
audio) and DHTML PowerPoint slides. Projects are being
distributed by a Microsoft Media Server. Presentations are available
for viewing with Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 5+. Netscape is
not support by MS Producer.

| The third category involves capturing live classroom lectures for Webcast or for on-demand distribution from an encoded file. Media sources normally include audio and may include any image source that can be displayed by a VGA graphics card. Sources could include PowerPoint slides, videos, other computer programs used for demonstrations such as an Internet browser or spreadsheet program, a document camera, a live classroom camera and a video slide projector device. There is typically not post lecture production performed on this type of project. This category of resource provides a means of extending the classroom to students who are unable to attend regular on-site classes. The technology can also be used to produce tutorials that support classroom instruction. | |||||||||
