The Generic Image
Identification Lab Application originated from the CLOE Learning
Object Project and ultimately from an earlier project of 1999. The
aim of this project was to create a Web-based template that would
provide course instructors with a template for creating interactive,
self-assessment exercises in which students would apply their
knowledge to identify images based on differentiating
characteristics. The original lab simulation was a standalone
program distributed on CD ROM and was completed in 1999.
The project was revisited with the idea of
creating a Web-based learning object that would function in the same way as the
first version but would be configurable for any set of images. Terry Collins,
Assistant Application Developer at CFL, set out to create the new application in
Flash MX.
Terry has coded the self-assessment
component so that it can be configured to accept other images without
reprogramming. This approach will allow us to reuse it in new learning objects
and thus the name Generic Image Identification Lab Application.
