16.  Campus MAPLE Proposal:   ESL Support for Faculty and Staff

This proposal was submitted to Dr. Veronika Mogyorody in February, 2004 for consideration.  The proposal was produced in response to the following recommendation in the report by the English Language Support Working Group in response to President Ross Paul’s White Paper on Teaching and Learning (2001) and subsequent Action Plan 2002.

“The Centre for Flexible Learning develop and implement a curriculum, both Web-based and in-class, designed to allow second language staff and faculty the opportunity to enhance their English language skills.”

The proposal recommended two programs: one program would address the language needs of faculty in the context of classroom teaching and the other program would address the language needs of staff.  Both programs would offer the flexibility of independent, web-based support and face-to-face instruction or consultation.
